New EV model qualifies for £3,750 discount under the Government’s Electric Car Grant as electric car sales surge
- Drivers can now get £3,750 off the Citroën ë-C5 Aircross Long Range as the Government’s Electric Car Grant expands again to add more qualifying models, giving people greater choice and putting money back in people's pockets
- It comes as the latest industry data shows EV sales have hit new highs, with electric cars making up 1 in 4 new vehicles sold in October - up nearly 29% since last year.
- More than 30,000 drivers have already made the switch thanks to the grant, which is helping to boost demand, support jobs and grow the economy.
- The grant now covers 38 electric models across the most popular automative brands including Ford, Citroën, Volkswagen and Nissan and offers discounts of up to £3,750, available to drivers directly at dealerships. See the full list of qualifying models here.
- To keep pace with the demand and boost EV infrastructure, the Government is also investing £381 million to help councils roll out more than 100,000 new chargepoints across the country, adding to the 86,000 already live, with a new charger added on average every 33 minutes.
- The investment is helping make charging cheaper and easier, especially outside London with some rural areas seeing a 26% increase in public chargers in the space of a year. See here.
- And for renters and those without driveways, new proposals could cut red tape and make it cheaper and easier to install home chargers, helping saving residents up to £250 in planning fees. Combined with the £25m scheme to support local authorities deliver more discreet cross-pavement channel charging solutions for residents, allow people to charge up for as little as 2p per mile.
- Aviation, Maritime and Decarbonisation Minister Keir Mather said: "Our Electric Car Grant now offers drivers more choice and bigger savings — putting £3,750 back in people's pockets as we help Britain go electric."
- Greg Taylor, Managing Director, Citroën UK, said: "It’s really important to us at Citroën that the transition to electrification is made as accessible as possible and we price all of our vehicles accordingly. ë-C5 Aircross Long Range is the first vehicle of its size and type to receive the full grant which is testament to the hard work of the team at Citroën to make cars that are practical for all. We welcome the support the UK Government is providing to make the transition to electric attainable, and are proud that Citroën continues to lead the way."
